How to Register

The Certificate of Number and registration expiration decals are obtained by submitting a snowmobile application, required documents, and fee to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). Registration is valid for three years and expires on September 30 of the third year.

Upon approval of the application, the IDNR will issue two registration expiration decals and a registration certificate containing the vehicle number.

The pocket-sized Certificate of Number must be carried on the snowmobile and made available for inspection by an enforcement officer whenever the snowmobile is being operated.

Applications are available from IDNR offices, snowmobile dealers, or online at the IDNR website.
