Official Today's Snowmobile Rider in Vermont Online Course Link to Vermont State Police

Effective December 21, 2010, the Vermont State Police changed their guidelines for distance learning. Students are now required to spend a minimum amount of time on each course page before proceeding to the certification exam.

Snowmobile Trail Signs

Regulatory Signs
Stop sign Purpose: Instructs riders to bring their snowmobile to a complete stop before proceeding with caution.
Colors: Red and white.
Yield sign Purpose: Instructs riders at intersection to yield the right-of-way to vehicles traveling on the other trails.
Colors: Red and white.
Do Not Enter sign Purpose: Instructs riders not to enter a particular road or trail. Typically used in con-junction with one-way trails.
Colors: Red and white.
Stay on Trail sign Purpose: Reminds riders of the importance of staying on the designated trail.
Colors: Black and white.
Restricted Area: No Snowmobiles! Purpose: Identifies areas where snow­mobiling is not allowed.
Colors: Black legend with red slash and circle.
Caution Signs
Stop Sign Ahead sign
Curve Ahead sign
Purpose: Advise snowmobile operators to proceed with caution at a reduced speed, or advise the snowmobiler of a specific trail condition.
Colors: Yellow with black letters or black or red symbols.

Caution sign: Bridge AheadCaution sign: IntersectionCaution sign: Winding Road

Chevron
Chevron sign Purpose: Provides additional guidance to the rider in a sharp turn.
Colors: Yellow with black symbol.
Hazard Markers
Hazard markers Purpose: Identifies a fixed object at the side of the trail. Used anytime the fixed object, such as bridge railings, narrows the normal width of the trail. The stripes slope down towards the trail.
Colors: Yellow and black.
Trail Markers
Trail Marker signTrail Blazer sign BLAZER
Purpose: Informs riders that they are on a designated snowmobile trail.
Colors: Green for primary trails, orange for secondary.
Orange directional blazer sign DIRECTIONAL ARROW
Purpose:
Informs riders that the trail ahead makes significant changes in direction.
Colors: Orange with black border and arrow.
Barrier Markers
Barrier markers Purpose: Indicate gated path or that road is closed to snowmobiling.
Colors: Red and white.
Route Signs and Arrows
Snowmobile Route sign Purpose: Indicates that a highway or road is designated for use by snowmobile operators.
Colors: Green and white.

Purpose:At the point a snowmobile operator leaves a trail, the arrow indicates the direction the operator may proceed on the highway or road.
Colors: Green and white.
